مع الحديث عن شارع عيسى الكبير، و تأثيره في النظام السائد لما حوله، و محاولات سكانه في خلق تجربة جديدة للسكن في المنامة كمدينة معاصرة، لا محيص عن مراجعة أحد هذه المباني القديمة، التي لم تعد كما كانت فعلاً، بل أصبحت في جلها سكن للعمالة الأجنبية المساهمة في التركيبة التجارية للسوق.

لا يحمل هذا المبنى اسم، لم أجد له رقم واحداً أيضاً، لذلك سأطلق عليه اسم “المبنى س” – كي نوحد الحديث فقط –، و يمكنك أن تعرف من الوهلة الأولى بأن هذا المبنى قد أسس في العصر الذهبي لشارع عيسى الكبير في خضم النهضة العمرانية، يبدو ذلك واضحاً من المواد المستخدمة و الألوان السائدة، و لعل ذلك ما يجذبني له في كل مرة! فهو قابع على ناصية الشارع دون إضاءة تجذبك له ليلاً و لا لون يميزه نهاراً، بل بقعة مبهمة في كلا الحالتين.

يحيط بــ”المبنى س” سور صغير، و “س” بذاته مألف من مبنيين ذو طابقين منفصيلين عن بعضهما عدا من سلم يربط بين طابقيهما العلويين يقبع في نهاية ممر طويل بينهما، في هذا المرر تنتشر أبواب شقق عدة، و يعلو الممر جزء مفتوح من السقف ليهديك شعور “الحوش” للبيت القديم، يؤمن “المبنى س” تجربتين سكن مختلفتين، فالمبنيان يملكان سلميين خاصين بهما أيضاً على كل طرف، هذان السلمان يؤمنان تجربة السكن المنفصل و الخاص كلياً لأصحاب الشقق العلوية، في حين أن الشقق التي توجد في الممر وسط المبنى تتبع أسلوب حياة مختلف، أكثر تكاتف و ترابط، حيث أن أبوابهم تفتح جميعها على ممر واحد – حوش واحد – جميل.

While we are still talking about Isa Al-Kabeer avenue renaissance, and how it changed everything around, we should stop for a moment to analyze one of the revolutionary building of Isa Al-Kabeer Avenue. Which became a house for the Indian labors who working in Manama.

This building doesn’t have a name, or even a single number, so we are going to call it “Building X”. From the first sight, you can figure its age out. Within the golden era of Isa Al-Kbeer Avenue in 50s, “Building X” had been created to be the ideal housing project in the block. It is so obvious! the material and colors are traveling over all these years till now!

“Building X” consists of two separate “two floors” buildings, with one pretty wide corridor between them that ended by staircase leading you to upper common area between the two buildings. The corridor has an opening in its roof which gives you the feeling of the traditional courtyard houses. “Building X” provides two different housing lifestyles. First one, is the full private independent department that located in the corners of the two building and you can reach them by a door and staircase in the corner of each building. On the other hand, the second one is the private department within the small community which comes from the departments and the corridor with the center staircase.
